MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express, 716 E. Enos Ave., is reopening Sept. 4 for dine-in service.
“My wife is retired now, and she has committed to being here and managing the front end,” said Jerome Taylor, who co-owns the restaurant at 716 E. Enos Ave. with his wife, Margaret Taylor. “That’s a big part of what was missing before.”

Taylor said the couple had initially planned to reopen MJ’s in June and explored bringing another business partner on board, but that didn’t work out.

“We have some people we plan to start with, but I’m sure staffing is going to be an ongoing problem, as it is for any industry these days,” Taylor said.

MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express started as a food truck in August 2015, but the business grew quickly and the Taylors moved to rented space at 230 South Grand Ave. East. In 2017, they purchased the current building in Enos Park, which was a turn-key operation from the previous occupant, Susie Q’s restaurant.

Fans of MJ’s shouldn’t expect any drastic changes. “We’ll start with our basic menu that we had before and then we’ll have specials after that,” Taylor said.

The restaurant will be open for dine-in or carryout Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

“We look forward to seeing everybody again,” Taylor said.
