The Springfield Versona, an apparel, jewelry and accessories store, is closing as of April 29. A sign posted on the front of the store, located at 2841 S. Veterans Parkway in White Oaks Plaza, asks shoppers to patronize the Woodfield Mall store in Schaumburg instead.

The Cato Corporation, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a specialty retailer of value-priced fashion apparel that operates as three different brands: Versona, Cato and It’s Fashion. The parent company, founded in 1946, operates approximately 1,300 apparel and accessories stores in 31 states.

According to Versona’s website, there are more than 100 locations throughout the United States, including six in Illinois. In addition to Springfield and Schaumburg, Versona has stores in Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook and Rockford. A store in St. Clair Square, the mall in Fairview Heights, recently closed.

Representatives from the corporate office did not respond to a request for comment.
