Terrie Malmstrom opens Doggie Stylez

Terrie Malmstrom has been in the pet grooming business for years, but now she has a new venture called Doggie Stylez.

"I owned Bubbles of Fun Pet Grooming for more than 10 years and sold it in 2017," Malmstrom said. "I was going to semi-retire, and I actually moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida."

However, Malmstrom's said she was still coming back to Springfield regularly to help her daughter, Tiffany Brunsman, who owns Barker's Paradise Pet Salon in Chatham.

"I was working out of my daughter's shop and helping her build her clientele," Malmstroem said. "But now it's time for momma."

Malmstrom has leased space at 1216 S. Fifth St. for Doggie Stylez, her new pet grooming salon. The location has been vacant since Dew Chilli Parlor closed in 2018.

Ownership of Dew Chilli Parlor has changed hands multiple times since Fred Crowder first opened the doors to Dew’s flagship location, 607 S. 11th St., in 1909. In 1949, the second owner, Joe Bockelmann, tore the front porch off of his family home at 1216 S. Fifth St. to build a new location for the parlor.

"I missed doing what I loved," said Malmstrom.

Doggie Stylez is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and every other Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Appointments are required.
