SIU System moves into new downtown office

The Southern Illinois University System has moved into new office space, not far from its previous location.

“We wanted to stay downtown to be close to the Capitol and accessible there,” said John Charles, executive director of government and public affairs.

At the beginning of February, SIU System opened an office at 321 E. Adams St., above Resource One. The approximately 3,000-square-foot space is larger than SIU System’s previous office in Lincoln Tower, where it had been for the past 15 years.

“We were crammed into a smaller space there, so this gives us a little bit more room,” said Charles, who noted that Catie Sheehan, who has been hired for the newly created position of executive director of marketing and communications, will also be working out of the office. In addition, the offices for Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Government Affairs and General Counsel have relocated, along with Dan Mahony, president of the SIU System.

“Two system offices were created in the last couple of years, the Office of Community Engagement and the Institute for Rural Health,” said Charles. “The folks who are helping to lead those efforts are sharing an office here also.

“It’s a really good spot, right in the middle of everything. We’re excited to be here and look forward to becoming even more a part of downtown,” he said.
