Scooter’s Coffee has officially come to Springfield. The location at 2935 Clear Lake Ave. held a soft opening on Dec. 19, while a second store is under construction at 1740 Wabash Ave., an outlot of the Chatham Square shopping center.

Franchise owners Marcus and Lauryn McGlasson are Pleasant Plains residents who opened their first Scooter’s location in Taylorville last year.

“We both really enjoy coffee, and when we were traveling for vacation a couple summers ago we discovered Scooter’s,” said Lauryn McGlasson. “I work as a nurse, but I also wanted to do something more.”

In addition to the central Illinois locations, the couple also have stores in the works in Indiana. Scooter’s Coffee, based in Omaha, Nebraska, has grown aggressively, from 75 locations nationwide in 2010 to 300 by last year. The company has announced plans to have 1,000 locations by 2024.

“Weather pending, hopefully we’ll have the Wabash store done by March,” McGlasson said.

A ribbon cutting for the Scooter’s on Clear Lake Avenue is planned for Friday, Jan. 13. McGlasson said drinks will be half-price all day when ordered through the app.

Operating hours are 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week. In addition to coffee, Scooter’s serves breakfast all day, which McGlasson said “has been a huge hit at our Taylorville store.”
