Saucy Rice closes, new restaurant taking its place

Saucy Rice Vietnamese Flavors has closed, but the space on Toronto Road won’t be vacant for long. The family that operates El Dorado Taqueria, located in the same shopping center, has already signed a lease and plans to open a new restaurant by next month.

“We are going to do a sweets and snacks kind of place,” said Victoria Gonzalez, who serves as the general manager for El Dorado. “Currently, we have cakes and popsicles that we sell at the restaurant. We want to add a juice bar and we’ll also have walking tacos, nachos, hot dogs, ice cream.”

Gonzalez said the new venture, Paleticaz, will focus on grab-and-go food items and desserts. “We’re hoping to appeal to the younger clientele,” she said.

El Dorado originally occupied the space at 1374 Toronto Road when it first opened in 2016 as El Dorado Express. The business rebranded as El Dorado Taqueria a few years later and moved into the larger, adjacent space at 1386 Toronto Road after Lake Pointe Grill closed in September 2022.

Saucy Rice Vietnamese Flavors opened in May 2023, but closed less than a year later. The owner did not respond to a request for comment.

Gonzalez said that two of the restaurant’s current staff, Omar Munoz and Daniel Parada, will be the ones running Paleticaz.

“We’re doing some updates now, and our goal is to be open by the middle of July,” she said.

Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
