Karen Gedrose has joined the United Way of Central Illinois as director of community initiatives, effective June 24. In this role, Gedrose will work with United Way's grant partners and the community as a whole.

"I am working with nonprofits in Sangamon and Menard counties and helping them apply for funding," Gedrose said.

She most recently spent nearly six years as the community resource director for Sinceri Senior Living, working for Mill Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Springfield. Prior to that, she handled corporate events for the American Heart Association.

"It was  great opportunity to get back into the not-for-profit world and work with such a diverse group of organizations," Gedrose said of her decision to join United Way. "I want to be able to serve central Illinois in the most comprehensive way I can."
