HDR, a national engineering, architecture and natural resources consulting firm, has expanded its presence in Springfield with the opening of a new office. The new location at 2040 W. Iles Ave. opened on Dec. 4.
In 2006, HDR acquired Springfield-based Cochran & Wilken, Inc., an engineering and natural resources consulting firm founded in 1984. The firm had remained at its location at 5201 S. Sixth Street Rd. from 1997 until this relocation.
“It’s exciting to see our growth and ongoing commitment to
Springfield,” said Matt Cochran, HDR’s national Director of Fisheries. “When we
came on board with HDR 17 years ago, it was obvious that we were joining a
company that really cared about the communities it serves. Since 2006, HDR has more
than doubled in size firm-wide to more than 12,000 employees in more than 225 locations.
To see that expansion and investment reflected locally, with our growing
service offering and staff supporting central Illinois, confirms that we made
the right decision.”
Prior to joining HDR, CWI was known nationally for its fisheries science and design services. That reputation has only expanded today, with Cochran leading one of the foremost fisheries consulting practices in the country. But the firm offers an entire suite of capabilities beyond fisheries.
Tom Hein, vice president and Illinois/Indiana area manager
for HDR, said the Springfield office has expanded in the last five years to also
include drinking water and wastewater, transportation and environmental science
capabilities. “When central Illinois seeks best practices and solutions to
address infrastructure and natural resources challenges and opportunities, we
want HDR to be at the top of the list,” Hein said.
Hein envisions this move as a catalyst for the next chapter
of HDR’s long-time presence in the region. “Our team is poised to deliver
national expertise backed by a decades-long history of living and working in
the communities in and around Springfield.”
A grand opening celebration for the new office will be held
in the spring of 2024, coinciding with the 40-year anniversary of the founding
of the original CWI office.
