CAD Construction opens Springfield office

Matt Williams and Aaron Gorbett open local office for Tremont-based firm

Two familiar names in the area construction industry are opening a Springfield office for CAD Construction.

The Tremont-based company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, started as a rough carpentry and interior trim union subcontractor. Over time, CAD Construction has evolved into a general contractor focusing on small commercial projects under $10 million, although it still subcontracts to larger companies on some projects.

“We do a lot of work for the Capital Development Board,” said vice president Alex Brenneman. “We had an opportunity to hire some local talent and decided it was time to open up a Springfield office.”

Matt Williams, who previously worked for Kuhn & Trello Consulting Engineers and Evan Lloyd Associates, will be staffing the Springfield office along with Aaron Gorbett, who most recently served as a project manager for R.D. Lawrence Construction.

CAD Construction’s Springfield office will operate out of Prairie State Plumbing & Heating’s former building at 3900 N. Peoria Road. Brenneman said Prairie State is still using a small area in the back for a sheet metal shop but has otherwise relocated its operations to Athens.

Kerri Martin, who has served as president of CAD Construction since 2006, said the company’s portfolio includes “insulated metal panels, standing seam metal roofs, universities and medical complexes.”

The company also works as a subcontractor to O’Shea Builders, which has led to projects at both Springfield Memorial Hospital and HSHS St. John’s Hospital, as well as the recent renovations at Lanphier High School.

“The majority of our work is government, although we do small, private contracts as well. And we do a lot of historic preservation,” Brennaman said, noting that the company was involved in renovations at Lincoln’s Tomb.

Brenneman said he anticipates additional growth for the new office. “I would expect we hire on another five to 10 carpenters in the Springfield area,” he said.

The Springfield office will officially open March 15.
