MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express will no longer offer carryout service

After a trial run of offering carryout orders on the weekends, MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express is shifting back to focusing solely on catering and special events.

Owner Jerome Taylor opened a brick-and-mortar location at 711 E. Enos Ave. in 2017 after two years of operating MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express as a food truck on South Grand Avenue East. He closed the restaurant in June 2022, citing ongoing staffing issues, but rents the space for private parties or fundraisers and offers on- or off-site event catering.

In January, Taylor began offering carryout service on the weekends, but now says he doesn’t plan to continue. “It’s a time commitment for my wife; she’s a big part of me being able to do what I do,” he said. “Without having her available, I don’t want to go at it trying to use someone else.” Margaret Taylor works full-time for the state of Illinois, in addition to assisting with the operations of MJ’s.

MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express' last days for carryout orders will be June 23-24 and Friday, June 30, 4-8 p.m.
