Chuyen Vo is preparing to open Saucy Rice Vietnamese Flavors, bringing a taste of central Vietnam to Springfield’s south side.
“This is my first restaurant, but I’ve been working on the concept for a while,” he said of the space at 1374 Toronto Road. “Most of the flavors and recipes come from our family.”
Vo will serve as the chef but said his uncle, aunt, father-in-law and other family members are also involved in the business. “Our food is authentic, unique to where we’re from in the middle of Vietnam. We get recipes and spices from both ends of the country that come into where we live; our food is made for both regions to eat.”
The building was formerly occupied by El Dorado Mexican Restaurant, which relocated into a nearby space at 1386 Toronto Road after Lake Pointe Grill closed in September.
“I had to do a full facelift; everything had to be renovated,” said Vo, although he noted having an existing hood system from the former restaurant was a plus.
Saucy Rice will hold a grand opening on Tuesday, May 9. Hours of operation will be Tuesday-Saturday 4-9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
“Every dish is a Vietnamese comfort food favorite,” said Vo. “You get salty, sweet and savory, all in one dish. It’s all made fresh from scratch.”
