Kopec, White & Spooner, Attorneys at Law, has welcomed Matt Sebak as a new partner with the firm following the retirement of Scott Spooner.

Sebek joins A. Michael Kopec and David V. White as a partner with the firm, and he will engage in the firm’s core civil law practice areas, providing counsel and representation in business law, litigation and domestic law, including divorce, estate planning, wills and trusts, probate and estate administration and real estate law.

Sebak has worked for various government agencies of the state of Illinois for the past 17 years, most recently serving as deputy general counsel to the State Fire Marshal’s Office since 2016. Prior to his government law employment, Sebek engaged in private practice with focuses in the areas of insurance coverage, insurance defense, securities fraud and other commercial litigation and he looks to leverage that experience to expand the firm’s areas of service.

Lawyers Kopec and White established the firm in 2008 and Spooner joined the firm as a partner in 2011. Spooner had previously been in private practice since 1989 and earlier served as an assistant attorney general for the State of Illinois. Scott tried scores of civil cases to verdict before juries in state and federal courts throughout Illinois and was a speaker, presenter and panelist for numerous programs of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Sangamon County Bar Association.
