Just three months after opening the first Springfield location, Scooter’s Coffee will have a second store at 1740 Wabash Ave., an outlot of the Chatham Square shopping center.

Franchise owners Marcus and Lauryn McGlasson are Pleasant Plains residents who opened their first Scooter’s location in Taylorville in 2021, followed by a store at 2935 Clear Lake Ave. in December 2022.

“We both really enjoy coffee, and when we were traveling for vacation a couple summers ago we discovered Scooter’s,” Lauryn McGlasson told SBJ in December. “I work as a nurse, but I also wanted to do something more.”

In addition to the central Illinois locations, the couple also have stores in the works in Indiana. Scooter’s Coffee, based in Omaha, Nebraska, has grown aggressively, from 75 locations nationwide in 2010 to 300 by last year. The company has announced plans to have 1,000 locations by 2024.

The Scooter’s Coffee on Wabash Avenue will have a soft opening on Friday, March 24. “We’re getting a lot of good feedback (from the existing location),” said McGlasson. “The franchise has it pretty dialed in, so we really haven’t had to change anything.”

A grand opening is planned for Friday, April 7, and a ribbon cutting with the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce will take place at 11 a.m. McGlasson said drinks will be half-price all day when ordered through the app.

Operating hours are 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week. In addition to coffee, Scooter’s serves breakfast all day, which McGlasson said “has been a huge hit at our Taylorville store.”
