MJ's Fish & Chicken Express to offer carryout on the weekends

Fans of MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express will soon be able to patronize the restaurant again, at least for carryout orders.

In June 2022, MJ’s shifted its business model to focus on catering and special events, which owner Jerome Taylor said was largely due to staffing issues and needing more flexibility for his family. Now, he plans to begin offering carryout service on the weekends, in addition to catering events and renting out the location at 716 E. Enos for private parties or fundraisers.

Hours for carryout will be Friday 4-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 2-8 p.m., beginning Friday, Jan. 20. “We’re trying to focus on keeping our footprint small as it relates to the number of people it takes to run the operation,” said Taylor.

MJ’s Fish & Chicken Express started as a food truck in August 2015, but the business grew quickly and Taylor moved to rented space at 230 South Grand Ave. East. In 2017, he purchased the current building in Enos Park, which was a turn-key operation from the previous occupant, Susie Q’s restaurant.

Taylor said he is hoping to hire a couple of part-time people prior to offering carryout. “We’re always looking for more people,” he said.
