Bungee by Dené Fitness was initially intended to open last year, but owner Dené Romanotto said the timing for launching Jan. 14 seems to be working out well.

“People are working on their New Year’s resolutions… the weekend classes are all booked and wait-listed right now, so that’s a good start,” Romanotto said.

She will hold an open house at Bungee by Dené Fitness, 4315 Yucan Drive, on Friday, Jan. 13, from 2-8 p.m. so that “people can get more comfortable and find out what it’s all about.”

Bungee fitness is a new concept developed six years ago in Thailand. Romanotto previously taught group fitness classes at the YMCA of Springfield and Rocket Fitness in Rochester, but was looking for high intensity, low-impact exercises that she could still do following several injuries.

After doing some research, Romanatto found a bungee fitness studio in Oklahoma and an equipment manufacturer called Fly Bungee Fitness in Cincinnati, Ohio, and made contact with both owners. “I’ve taken my training and purchased my equipment from them,” she said.

The next step was to work with her contractor to build out a 1,700-square-foot suite in the retail strip center that also houses several other health and wellness businesses: Anytime Fitness, Sulit Spin and Smoothie King.

People will pay by the class and reserve a spot, or also have the option to book the entire space for a private group class. There are 10 spaces available for each class; Romanatto and an assistant will occupy the other two stations.

“There’s a lot of customization that goes into it for each client based on their weight, strength and ability,” she said, explaining the need for an assistant trainer to help make adjustments for each class.

For now, Romanatto has scheduled classes for the next three weeks and said she’ll adjust the days and times based on client demand. Classes will be offered at 5:30 a.m. and 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, plus 9 a.m. and 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Romanatto said she’ll offer a Saturday morning class each week, but the remainder of the weekend will be reserved for private groups.

“I’ve been doing practice classes with friends, family and former fitness co-workers. Everybody is loving it; it’s very fun and a good cardio workout,” she said. “They leave sweating and smiling.”
