Brian Lauer retiring, closing AB Lauer Jewelers

After more than 40 years in the jewelry industry, Brian Lauer, owner of AB Lauer Jewelers, is retiring and closing the business at 1927 W. Iles Ave. in Springfield.

AB Lauer Jewelers has operated since 2009, but the history of the family business dates back to 1910 when Stout’s Jewelers began. Brian’s father, Art Lauer, later purchased the store and added his surname to rename the business Stout and Lauer Jewelers.

Art and his wife, Evelyn, operated the store for decades and had three children who grew up in the family business: Deb, Bruce and Brian. When Deb and Bruce closed their parents' store in 2007, Brian decided to fulfill his dream of starting his own jewelry business.

In a written statement, Brian said, “It’s the tight-knit relationship with the community and the people within it” that he will miss the most as he heads into retirement, noting that AB Lauer Jewelers has been involved in many different charitable events over the years, from supporting the Springfield Art Association to feeding the homeless during the holiday season.

He described the decision to retire as a “difficult, yet necessary one,” and said he appreciates the many clients he’s had the pleasure of working with and his wife, Mickey, for being “an incredible partner in life and business.”
