The Range Bourbon & Brew opens in Chatham

Bourbon lovers now have a new option to quench their thirst. The Range Bourbon & Brew has opened in Chatham, occupying the space at 316 N. Main Plaza that previously housed 3Sixteen Wine Bar. The wine bar closed in February of this year.

However, previous patrons of 3Sixteen will notice some changes to the interior. “We did a lot of remodeling; the bar is brand new and space is a bit different,” said manager Hannah Gudgel.

Gudgel worked for Locals Bar in Pawnee for the past three years and said a mutual friend put her in touch with the manager of AJ’s Corner about taking on the new venture. Owners Mike Buscher, Mike Wallner, Pete Giacomini and Kevin Daughtery also own AJ’s Corner and The Creek Pub & Grill in Chatham.

“We have a little over 80 bourbons, but that will continue to grow,” said Gudgel. “People give me suggestions, and if they’ll come in and drink it, I’ll stock it.” She said Angel’s Envy and Woodford Reserve are currently the two most popular bourbons.

There’s also a selection of craft beers on draft, and Gudgel said, “We tried to keep it pretty local.” Beers from Hand of Fate in Petersburg, DESTIHL in Bloomington, Riggs Beer Company in Urbana and Schlafly Beer in St. Louis are all in regular rotation.

The Range is open from 3-11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday 3-12 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m.-midnight and Sunday 12 p.m.-11 p.m.
