FitBodies opens today in a new location at 3430 Constitution Drive.
“This is our third move, and last one, I hope,” said Chris Schmulbach, who started the gym in 2017 along with his wife, Kendra.
Initially, FitBodies occupied a 1,500-square-foot building on South MacArthur Boulevard and outgrew that space after the first year. For the past four years, the gym has been housed in The Yard Shopping Center on Wabash Avenue.
Now, FitBodies has relocated to 4,000 square feet of space on the west side of Springfield, and Schmulbach said, “It’s a really nice area with good traffic and a lot of potential over here.”
While the space previously housed another gym, HIPE Fitness, it was most recently used as a warehouse for medical supplies. “I’ve been working around the clock to get the space ready,” said Schmulbach. “I’ve had to demo a bunch of walls, plus all the painting and finishing touches.”
Schmulbach said he would describe FitBodies as a “transformation-style gym for being healthy and getting back in shape, not a competitive gym.” He and another trainer are both nutrition coaches, and he said it’s “geared toward the everyday person who wants to come in and get fit.”
FitBodies offers five classes throughout the day on weekdays, plus a 9 a.m. class on Saturdays that is free and open to the public for those who want to try it out.
