226 Sports will soon be opening a Springfield location in the 22,000-square-foot facility at 3604 N. Peoria Road that previously housed Goals Indoor Sports.

The company’s name comes from the Bible verse Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Based out of Collinsville, 226 Sports operates Extreme Baseball & Softball Club as well as Turn 2 Sports Training.

Extreme Baseball & Softball Club was founded in 1999 and has 60 teams based out of three main locations in the St. Louis Metro East area, Springfield and Chicago.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to revive a facility that has brought sport and recreation opportunities to the Springfield area for years,” said Chris Fair, general manager of 226 Sports. “It’s been evident that this is exactly where we are supposed to be, and we’re excited to bring our nationally known, 3D experience and expertise to a Springfield area that is passionate about baseball, softball and the overall effect that sports can have on family and community.”

In addition to Extreme Baseball & Softball Club, the new Peoria Road location will house Turn 2 Sports Training, which will offer general public baseball and softball training, practice space rentals, camps and more. The facility will feature full-size batting cages, turf infield area, bullpen area, a weight room, running lanes, meeting space and concessions.

“Bringing the Extreme’s mission and vision to our community has been a big goal of mine, said Kyle Welch, Extreme Springfield director. “And now, with the addition of this facility partnership, we can spread our mission at a whole new level.”

Jared Washko, owner of Washko Strength & Speed, will be the official sports performance provider for the Extreme Springfield teams and will operate out of the Peoria Road facility.

“When we first started the expansion of Extreme Baseball & Softball Club into Springfield, knowing that sports performance was a big part of the Extreme mission, Jared was my first call,” said Welch.

Renovations on the building are currently underway with plans to open for training and rentals beginning later in November.
