Matthew Fry named president and CEO of HSHS St. John's Hospital

HSHS St. John’s Hospital has named Matthew Fry as the new president and CEO. Fry is currently serving as the assistant administrator/COO at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California. He will begin his new role with St. John’s on Sept. 19.

Allison Paul, chief nursing officer at St. John’s, has been serving as the interim president and CEO since December 2021.

Fry has spent nearly a decade of his health care career within the Sutter Health system and its affiliates. Sutter Health is a not-for-profit integrated health system headquartered in Sacramento, California, operating 24 acute care hospitals and over 200 clinics in Northern California.

Fry is currently working on his doctorate in health care administration from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He holds master’s degrees in health care administration from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana, and business administration from the University of Nevada in Reno.  Fry completed his bachelor’s degree at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.

“I am excited to meet the colleagues and providers of St. John’s Hospital and continue to support them in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the patients served by HSHS. I am also looking forward to becoming an active member of the Springfield community by getting involved with many of the local organizations,” Fry said in a written statement.

He and his wife, Amanda, will be relocating to Springfield with their three children, Charlotte, Samantha, and Matt Jr.
