Lana Shovlin is the new program coordinator for Downtown Springfield, Inc. Shovlin will be responsible for spearheading all of the programs and events that raise funds for DSI’s continued work and sustainability.

Before joining the DSI team, Shovlin worked as a publicist for Southern Illinois University Press, working closely with local and national media to organize press events, schedule book signings and craft press releases for authors.

Since moving to Springfield, Shovlin has been freelance writing for Illinois Times and Springfield Business Journal, which she says has given her an opportunity to establish relationships with many of Springfield’s business professionals.

Shovlin said she sees her new role as program coordinator as a chance to further immerse herself in the community and enhance everything that downtown Springfield has to offer.

It was through these publications that she got the opportunity to know and establish relationships with many of Springfield’s business professionals. When she heard about the opening for the Program Coordinator, she jumped at the chance to further immerse herself in the community.
