There will soon be a new addition to downtown Springfield when Whiskey Jack’s Sports Bar opens at 430 E. Monroe.

Craft Beer Bar, the previous business at that location, continued to offer outdoor seating into November due to the mild weather, but then closed and did not reopen even when public health guidelines allowed bars to resume indoor seating. Tony Mattera, who also owns The Stadium Bar & Grill at 2300 N. Peoria Road, said he and his business partner purchased the business from Lou Calvetti.

“We think downtown is going to be coming back at some point,” said Mattera. “It’s a good place to be when things are normal.”

He said the interior has already been completely redone and will now be a sports bar theme with TVs and video gaming. According to Mattera, he’s waiting on the liquor license, but is in the process of hiring staff and hopes to open on April 15.
