Rumberger's Lounge preparing to open in downtown Springfield

Rumberger’s Lounge is coming to downtown Springfield, and the owners are no strangers to the area.

In May 2018, Sandra Cabbell and Jeff Moore opened Anchors Away, a seafood restaurant located in the historic Hickox building that previously housed Norb Andy’s Tabarin. The following year, a lease was signed for 217 S. Fifth St., a 4,200-square-foot space that had most recently operated as Balen’s Bar and Grill.

Rumberger’s, named after Moore’s grandfather, is a gourmet wing restaurant headquartered in Peoria. In addition to three locations there, Rumberger’s recently expanded to Champaign, plus the planned Springfield location.

“We had a soft opening recently and it was just too much,” said Moore, who explained that he decided to wait to reopen the restaurant until he could hire additional staff. “It’s really hard to find people who want to work right now.”

The Springfield location is currently hiring cooks, servers and dishwashers and Moore said he hopes to be open in another week or so.
