Matt Mamer has been named the next president and CEO of Citizens Equity First Credit Union, replacing Mark Spenny, who plans to retire May 1, 2021.

CEFCU is headquartered in Peoria but has three branches in Springfield, in addition to other locations, and total assets of $6.8 billion.

Mamer began his career at CEFCU 25 years ago as a member assistant and most recently served as the chief operations officer.

Spenny has worked at CEFCU for 27 years and started out in the mortgage department, later serving as
vice president of mortgages and business services and then chief lending officer. He was named president and CEO in May 2006.

Under Spenny’s leadership, CEFCU expanded into the Springfield and Decatur markets. It also acquired Valley Credit Union in San Jose, California, and recently announced plans to acquire four branches of Simmons Bank in the Metro East area of Illinois.
