The Corkscrew recently relocated, but customers should have no trouble finding their favorite wine retailer – the business simply moved to a different suite in the same shopping center at the corner of Chatham Road and Iles Avenue.
David Anderson, who co-owns the business with his wife, Danielle, said the move was prompted by INB, the bank at the north end of the center, wanting to expand. “They’ve wanted our space for a while,” Anderson said, explaining that the landlords convinced the Andersons to relocate their business, combining the suites that formerly housed Pizza Hut and Edward Jones to accommodate The Corkscrew.
“Obviously, the headache was moving, but what’s nice is we have new lights, new ceilings and new flooring,” said Anderson. He said the new space is only 50 square feet larger, but the layout is an improvement.
“We made a few little tweaks, moved the bar into the middle and the cheese cooler to one side. In the back we have a larger area for sitting, which doesn’t matter now (due to the mitigations) but in the long run that will be good,” Anderson explained.
“Everyone who’s seen it says it looks a lot nicer.”
Meanwhile, INB has taken over the 4,000 square feet formerly occupied by The Corkscrew. “We’re more than doubling the size of that location, to about 7,900 square feet total,” said executive vice president Pat Phalen. “We’re opening up the space so there will be one entrance into the bank and we’ll keep our retail and drive-up facilities, plus our mortgage lender,” he said.
The 10 employees who make up the wealth and trust department will also move into that space, relocating from their current offices downtown.
“We’ve been looking at this Montvale location for years to have more a wealth presence because of its locale,” said Phalen. “And it helps our space needs, we have 250-260 employees and we are growing every day.”
Phalen said that by freeing up space at the downtown location, it will allow the other departments to have room for growth. The additional space at Montvale is expected to be ready for occupancy shortly after the first of the year.
