Resume assistance for job seekers

Alice Campbell Staffing is offering free resume review and recommendations to job seekers in the Springfield area.

“With thousands of people laid off and furloughed, we felt this was one simple way we could use our expertise to help job seekers,” said Jean Campbell, business manager at Alice Campbell Staffing. “While there is a lot of uncertainty right now, job seekers need to be prepared for their job search when central Illinois businesses begin to re-open.”

Among the free resume services Alice Campbell Staffing offers are:  proof reading of resumes for spelling and grammatical errors, presentation and formatting recommendations and editing for accuracy and consistency. Campbell noted that the best resumes are clean, simple and limited to one page, if possible. They should be broken into sections such as education, work experience and, skills with headings in bold type. Volunteer experience can be included if it is relevant to the type of position being pursued.

Campbell added that work experience should be listed in reverse chronological order with your current or most recent job listed first. Using bullet points to list job duties rather than long paragraphs makes a resume easier and quicker to read. Be sure to provide accurate dates of employment for each job as employers often verify dates with former employers.

“Obviously, your resume is the first impression you make with a potential employer,” said Campbell, “so presentation is important."
