The building at 210 North Grand Ave. East in Springfield has been vacant for nearly three years since Chase Bank closed the branch as part of nationwide consolidation efforts. The property will now become the Springfield location for Two Men and a Truck.
The business is currently operating out of a location at 651 E. Linton Ave. in Park South, but business development manager Travis Blaney said, “It was time to get a location that’s going to accommodate our growth. The North Grand location will have more room for people – drivers and movers – and a future option of having storage on site, to expand our revenue ventures.”
While May through August is typically the peak season for the business, Blaney noted the timeframe has been expanding every year. “We always hire more people over the summer, and each year we’ve had to keep more people year-round. We keep growing and expanding that base,” he said, which has led to a need for a larger building.
Dan and Renee Shunk own the Two Men and a Truck franchise for central Illinois as well as Lafayette and Terra Haute, Indiana. The Shunks opened a location in Champaign 11 years ago, followed by a satellite location in Bloomington and then a Springfield location in August 2014.
“I love how Springfield has welcomed us and allowed us to do our thing,” said Blaney. “It’s a great location. We’re looking forward to being here for a long time.”
Renovations are currently underway at the North Grand property in anticipation of an Oct. 1 opening date at the new location.
