Robert Morris University closed its Springfield location earlier this year, and Illinois Educators Credit Union has purchased the two-story brick building at 3101 Montvale Dr.

“In the last couple of years our credit union has grown, and we don’t have any more empty offices,” said Jody Dabrowski, CEO of Illinois Educators Credit Union, “If we keep adding new products and services for our members, we need staff to support that.”

IECU currently has two locations, 1420 S. Eighth St. and 1124 Centre West Dr., which Dabrowski said the credit union has occupied for the past 25 years.

“We did a demographic study to see where our members want us to be,” Dabrowski said of the new location just off Wabash Avenue. “And it made sense to combine our two offices into one location and bring all the staff together.”

IECU worked with Garrison Group to help identify a new location, and the closing took place on Sept. 11. Dabrowski said Evan Lloyd Associates is providing architectural services and R.D. Lawrence Construction is serving as the general contractor for renovations that will include adding a drive-thru and turning the former classrooms into areas for member services.

“We also plan to turn the library downstairs into a community room and let our community partners use that for events,” said Dabrowski, who noted that Resource One will provide furniture and interior finishes.

Dabrowski said the new location should be ready for occupancy by the spring of 2020.

“At 22,000 square feet, it’s big enough to let us grow into it over the next 25 years,” she said.
