One fortunate local nonprofit will receive $10,000 next month, courtesy of 100+ Who Care of Springfield. The group is holding its third annual fundraising event on Thursday, Aug. 1, a grassroots effort that relies heavily on word-of-mouth and participation from community volunteers who want to lobby for a particular charity.

On Aug. 1, 100 people (or more) will pay $100 each, or $150 for couples, to attend an event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Illinois REALTORS, located at 522 S. Fifth St. In addition, the final downtown Levitt AMP concert will be taking place that night, featuring artist John Moreland.

Attendees submit their name along with the name of their favorite local charity. Three names will be drawn at random, and each person is given five minutes to speak to the group and advocate for that particular charity. The crowd votes, and the winning nonprofit will be awarded a check totaling 100% of the donations, since there are no administrative costs or overhead.

Participants enjoy an evening of socializing, networking and coming together to quickly make a big impact on Springfield and its surrounding communities.  This concept has been successfully implemented in more than 300 other chapters across North America, and 100+ Who Care of Springfield is one of over 200 chapters in the United States. The local group was started as a Leadership Springfield project through the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
