Tacology 101 reopens after minor fire

Tacology 101, located at 219 S. Fifth St. in downtown Springfield, will reopen today after a minor fire Monday afternoon. Owner James Hamilton said that there was no damage to the interior of the restaurant, “just a mess outside we had to clean up.”

Firefighters out on another call around 4:30 p.m. Monday noticed smoke coming from the fenced-in area behind the restaurant, near the dumpsters and parking lot. Hamilton said, “We were smoking some brisket; burnt end brisket tacos are pretty popular for us. There was a pile of brush back there from the winter, and it caught something on fire.”

The Springfield Fire Department had the scene under control within 15 minutes, and Hamilton said the only loss was what he intended to be his weekend special. “We’ll recover,” he said with a laugh. “It’s going to be a great summer.”
