J.Jill, a national retailer for women’s clothing, shoes and accessories, is preparing to open its first Springfield location. The store will be located at 2916-2920 Plaza Dr. in The Gables. The spaces formerly occupied by Tobin Jewelers and Gypsy Tribe are now being combined into one suite and construction is “very much underway,” according to Jim Wilson, manager and part owner of The Gables, who said he anticipates a mid-summer opening for J. Jill.

J. Jill already has locations throughout Illinois, including Champaign, Peoria and Bloomington, along with seven Chicago-area stores and a presence in the Fairview Heights mall.

“They have been looking at the market. We started working together a couple of months ago on possibilities,” Wilson said. “We’re very excited about it; J. Jill will be a really strong anchor for us at The Gables.”

In March, SBJ reported that Tobin Jewelers was closing the family-owned business after more than 100 years. Gypsy Tribe recently relocated to a newly constructed retail center on Liberty Dr. when owner Sue Schwartz consolidated three different retail shops into one location.
