Unveil Your Beauty, a retail store specializing in handmade wedding accessories, has relocated to 1020 W. Lawrence Avenue in Springfield as of Aug. 27. Owner Brenda Ritter originally started the business 10 years ago out of her home in Divernon and then moved to a location on West Jefferson in Springfield a few years ago. The building she was leasing recently sold, and around the same time she retired from working at a dental practice, which allowed her to pursue her business venture full time.

While she sells dresses for weddings, proms and homecoming, her passion is customizing wedding accessories. “I make a lot of belts, headpieces, bling up the shoes,” Ritter said. “I do a lot of custom work, and I never make two of the same thing.”

The concept for her business came about after her own daughter got married. “I made her veil out of a pair of antique curtains,” Ritter explained. “It was 10 feet long and had 10,000 beads on it that were all hand-sewn. It took me four months, but I loved it, and from that point on I just kept going. Somebody would hear about it and ask me, and I’d make another veil.”

Ritter said that many customers bring her their mother or grandmother’s wedding dress, which she uses to make garters, dance bags, hankies, or brooches.”If you can find it on Pinterest, I can do it,” she said.

The store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
