Buzz Bomb Brewing Co., a downtown Springfield brewery located at 406 E. Adams St., has purchased a second brewery in Illiopolis to meet their rising demand.
Formerly known as Reinstone Brewery, the facility will contain a 10-barrel electric brewing system.
Co-owners Bill Larson and Josh Flanders say this new facility will nearly triple their brewing capacity.
“There is also room for expansion. We are buying more fermentation gear for out there, which lets us make 40 barrels a month. We produce 25 barrels a month here. So we are doing pretty well with that deal,” Larson explains.
“Our initial plan was to wait two years before we expanded, but the price was right and it seemed like the stars aligned correctly.”
Flanders and Larson are aware that they would not be able to purchase another brewing facility so quickly if the support from the Springfield community was not there.
In lieu of a ribbon cutting, the co-owners have decided to hold a customer appreciation night on June 29 to celebrate the purchase of the Illiopolis brewery.
This is also an effort to say thank you to the community for the support they have received since opening their doors in March.
