Recycled Cottage, a retail shop offering refurbished furniture and supplies for do-it-yourself customers, recently announced they will be closing on May 12. The business began in 2014 and has been located at 1208 S. Sixth Street in Springfield since 2015.

Owner Nikki Baker said there are no plans to open another store anywhere else, although she and co-owner Tina Thornhill have made arrangements with another local business.

“Flea Market to Fabulous is going to become the local supplier for Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan,” said Baker. “And Tina and I will help them run their first couple of classes, so that our customers will have a smooth transition.”

For now, Baker and Thornhill are focused on preparing to close their store. “We’re doing some fun sales right now and liquidating inventory, including all the furniture,” said Baker. “We’ll sell off everything except the Chalk Paint, since that will move over to Flea Market to Fabulous.”

Baker said she’s not entirely sure yet what the future holds. “I had a great career with Springfield Electric and a great shop owning experience, so whatever I end up doing next, I’m sure that will be great as well,” she said.
