Cocoa Blue Chocolates has closed their Springfield location at 4015 Yucan Drive, which owner Joshua Becker says will allow him to focus more on the original location in Rochester. On a post on the business’ Facebook page, Becker explains, “It’s something I’ve been thinking about the last 3 to 4 months, and it was a very difficult decision to finally decide to close it. However, I feel closing that location is in the best interest of my business, my personal well-being, and my family. I think you will see a better version of Cocoa Blue Chocolates as we move forward, as I introduce new products, new collaborations, and I participate in new events. On the personal side, it will be better for me and my family if I have more free time to fully invest in my life outside of the shop.”
Becker originally practiced law for a number of years, most recently with Edwards Group, LLC in Springfield. He left his law practice to attend Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in St. Louis, Missouri and after completing the program went on to open Cocoa Blue Chocolates in 2013.
In addition to his own retail locations, Becker has partnered with local businesses such as Robert’s Seafood, HyVee, and Studio on 6th St., which all offer his products. In addition, he recently partnered with Beer Nuts out of Bloomington to offer a snack mix that includes his chocolate. The new product is sold at Cocoa Blue’s location in Rochester as well as Beer Nuts Company Store in Bloomington.
Becker concluded the announcement of the Springfield location closing by stating, “I’m sorry to disappoint those of you that have become addicted to your weekly dose of Cocoa Blue on the west side….keep checking back on Facebook for upcoming product launches and exciting events! I appreciate all of you so much. Thank you for your support the last four years. I look forward to great things to come!”
