Visions by JDR is preparing to move into the building at 3935 N. Peoria Road that formerly housed Fish Man Pet Center. Darlene Anderson recently purchased the Peoria Road property and is in the process of renovating it.

“Mostly I sell crystals, incense, candles, jewelry, books, and music, that sort of thing,” said Anderson. “I started Visions by JDR in 2005. And I have a massage license; I’ve been doing that for 20 some years. I also do hands on healing like Reiki, colon hydrotherapy and ion foot baths.”

She said that she will have two massage rooms available to rent for massage therapists who may want to work out of the space. Anderson also hopes to be able to host special events at her new location. “We divided the space in half to create a room we can use for classes and shows,” she said, explaining that there is an annual holistic fair held at the fairgrounds but smaller fairs could be held in the building.

Currently, Visions by JDR operates out of a space at 1815 W. Jefferson. “We are busting at the seams here, and I only have five parking spots,” said Anderson of her desire to move to a new location. “The retail portion is moving right away, and the massage services will follow shortly.”

The Peoria Road building is currently zoned B-2 and Anderson is in the process of seeking a zoning change to B-1 to accommodate her business. She has also been working on remodeling the former Fish Man location, which had suffered damage over the years due to the high humidity level caused by the fish tanks. “As we got in there and started looking at things, most of the metal studs in the wall had disintegrated,” Anderson said.

The city council will vote on the proposed zoning change on April 17 and Anderson hopes to have the move completed shortly afterwards.

Fish Man Pet Center has moved to a new location at 1508 E. Sangamon Avenue in Springfield.
