Lauren Gibson, who is the marketing specialist for the City of Springfield’s Office of Planning and Economic Development (OPED), has taken a new job in the Bloomington area. Her last day with the city is March 13. After that, she will be working in community planning for the McLean County Regional Planning Commission.
Gibson is currently responsible for administering the Springfield-Sangamon County Enterprise Zone, which provides incentives to businesses to encourage investment in areas in need of revitalization. After her departure, that responsibility will shift to Jessica Weitzel with OPED.
Gibson has worked for the City of Springfield since April 2015. Prior to that, she worked for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as an Illinois State Trade and Export Program Promotion Officer. She is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and holds a master’s in public administration from University of Illinois at Springfield. She was named one of Springfield Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2014.
