The recently constructed retail building directly across from Sky Zone will soon be getting its first tenant. Sue Schwartz, owner of Gypsy Soul, Gypsy Tribe and Gypsy Dreamer, plans to consolidate all three of her locations into one 5400 square foot store.
“We don’t have a concrete date yet, but we’re shooting for the end of April or beginning of May,” said Schwartz. “Our architect we’re working with, Evan Lloyd Associates, just got plans to the city and we’re waiting for them to approve the permits for the inside work.”
While the new location will simply be known as Gypsy Soul, Schwartz said there will still be space devoted to Gypsy Tribe products. “We will have a designated area for Gypsy Tribe, so that the children’s items aren’t mixed in with the adult clothes.”
Currently, Schwartz manages Gypsy Soul and her daughter, Cheryl Schwartz, manages Gypsy Dreamer while Gypsy Soul is managed by daughter-in-law Elle Schwartz. Gypsy Tribe and Gypsy Dreamer are both located in The Gables shopping center, while Gypsy Soul is currently located at 2939 Montvale Drive. Schwartz says they are excited about the opportunity to all work together in the same location.
While their physical location may be changing, Schwartz says that customers will still find the unique, distinctive merchandise they’ve come to expect from the Gypsy stores. They will also continue to provide space for local artists to display their work. “We have five or six artists that have their work in the stores,” explained Schwartz, “and part of their rent is working a couple of days a week.
“We’ll still have some really fun, different things that you wouldn’t normally see in Springfield,” said Schwartz.
Gypsy Soul, Gypsy Tribe and Gypsy Dreamer were collectively recognized as part of Springfield Business Journal’s 15 Under Fifteen awards program highlighting excellence in small business in 2017.
