Master barber and owner of Jones Chop Shop passes away

Craig Matthew Jones, owner and master barber of Jones’ Chop Shop, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Memorial Medical Center.

A 1999 graduate of Lanphier High School and longtime Springfield resident, Jones was the owner and master barber of Jones Chop Shop, located at 1022 W. Lawrence Ave., in Springfield. Jones was voted “Best Barber” in the 2015 Illinois Times “Best of Springfield” awards.

A celebration of Jones’ life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 4-7 p.m., at Kirlin-Egan Butler Funeral Home, located at 900 S. Sixth St. A memorial ceremony will take place Thursday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., at Kirlin-Eagle Butler Funeral Home, with a service led by celebrant Judy Woerner. Burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery will take place following the ceremony.

Additionally, a memorial ride (“Raisin’ Hell for Craig Jones”) in honor of Jones’ life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15, from noon – 7 p.m., The ride is open to anyone on two or four wheels, and will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the Sunset Inn, and will end at Crows Mill Pub.
