A sports restaurant franchise based in Cincinnati is expanding to Springfield.

Buffalo Wings & Rings, which has restaurants in 13 states, expects to open its first Springfield location within two years.

Philip Schram, part owner and chief development officer of Buffalo Wings & Rings, describes the restaurant as “a better experience.” He says the atmosphere is meant to be family-friendly and more upscale than a typical sports bar. The company employs a trained chef, with the goal of imbuing traditional pub grub with culinary artistry.

“The food is always fresh and made on the premises,” he said, adding that it is served on white china.

Schram says the company intends to spend about six months in the site-selection process for its first Springfield location.

Buffalo Wings & Rings was established in Cincinnati in 1984 and has 56 locations, including three in the Chicago region.
