Rakey named executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region

The Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region has named Lisa Rakey as the organization’s new Executive Director effective August 11, 2014.

“Lisa is clearly a leader who understands the great benefits that a strong BBBS organization can have on our community," said David Tretter, President of the BBBS board. "She has a record of achievement and collaboration, which we believe makes her well suited to lead BBBS through the second phase of our already successful multi-year Strategic Plan.”

Rakey joined BBBS in 2006, and as the Director of Community Relations for Christian, Macoupin, Montgomery and Sangamon Counties, she oversaw a wide range of responsibilities including fundraising, establishing and building donor relationships, conducting presentations to various local organizations and businesses, and acting as a spokesperson and advocate for the BBBS organization. She had previously held positions with the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault and the Macoupin County Public Health Department.

Tretter said, “We had an impressive pool of applicants for the position, but in the end Lisa had the right qualities, experience, and passion to build on our previous successes in helping to improve the lives of children and their families throughout central Illinois. We thank everyone who applied and are appreciative of the local support for an organization that we believe is a real asset to our community.” In accepting the job Rakey said, “I’m honored to have been selected as the new Executive Director for an organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of young people in our community. I look forward to the challenge of leading Big Brothers Big Sisters to new heights.”
